Hiendra, the director of PT Multicon Indrajaya Terminal (MIT), allegedly gave a bribe of Rp 45.7 billion (US$3.12 million) to Nurhadi starting from early 2015. The suspect allegedly bribed Nurhadi in an attempt to gain favor in a dispute between MIT and another company.

After naming Hiendra a suspect in February and including him in the wanted list, KPK commissioner Lili Pantauli Siregar said investigators were able to locate him after receiving a public report. According to the tip-off, Hiendra visited an apartment in South Tangerang on Oct. 28.

“With this information, KPK investigators coordinated with the apartment block manager and security officers to spy on and wait for the opportunity to enter the apartment in question,” Lili said during Thursday’s press conference.

The graft busters then arrested Hiendra in the apartment at 8 a.m. on Thursday, in addition to seizing two vehicles that were allegedly used by the suspects during his escape.

The antigraft agency charged Hiendra under Article 5 of the 2001 Corruption Law, which prohibits bribing state officials and carries a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment.

Nurhadi is currently being tried by the Jakarta Corruption Court for receiving a bribe of Rp 45.7 billion, in addition to Rp 37.3 billion worth of gratuity, allegedly in relation to the handling of three Supreme Court cases during his tenure as secretary. His son-in-law, Rezky Herbiyono, is also being tried for his alleged involvement in the same case.
