he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is tracing deeper the flow of funds in a bribery case involving Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara, including the possibility of streams into political parties.
KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri said the commission had pocketed more detailed information regarding the flow of funds involving the distribution of COVID-19 social aid and would soon examine witnesses to confirm their findings.
“We are set to examine some witnesses that may shed light on the information of the alleged flow of funds. Whether there is a flow to certain political parties will be further explored,” Ali told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Juliari and his subordinates, Matheus Joko Santoso and Adi Wahyono, are accused of accepting roughly Rp 12 billion (US$582,020) in bribes from a number of suppliers during the first wave of the ministry’s aid distribution earlier this year.
Matheus and Adi -- both procurement officials -- allegedly agreed on a Rp 10,000 commission for each aid package costing Rp 300,000 with several suppliers, including Ardian IM and Harry Sidabuke. The five have been named suspects in the case.
The KPK is also looking into the possibility of whether Juliari or other officials had caused state losses -- a corruption offense punishable by a maximum of 20 years or life in prison depending on the magnitude of the state losses.
Ali said the KPK had referred only to bribery charges because it had found no state losses in the case so far.
