he Hong Kong-Singapore quarantine-free travel bubble that was due to open May 26 is being delayed for a second time amid a resurgence of coronavirus infections in Singapore in recent days, the two governments said Monday.

"The two governments will continue to closely monitor the epidemic situation in both places, including the effectiveness of the enhanced anti-epidemic measures introduced by the Singapore government," a Hong Kong government spokesman said in a statement.

Both governments will continue to exchange information and review developments before announcing the new launch date of the travel bubble by June 13, which is when Singapore's latest anti-pandemic measures are due to expire, he said.

The travel bubble was originally scheduled for Nov. 22 last year but deferred after virus cases had increased in Hong Kong.

Under the revised program, travelers will have to take standard PCR tests both before departure and upon arrival, travel on designated flights and install mobile tracking apps.

Hong Kong travelers must also be vaccinated "for better self-protection," a Hong Kong minister has said.

The program will start with one flight a day both ways with up to 200 passengers on each, and with two flights a day each from June 10 onward. It will be suspended if local infections increase in either city, with resumption contingent on a drop in them.

Singapore's Health Ministry said Monday it confirmed 28 new cases of coronavirus infections, with 21 of them transmitted locally, amid a resurgence of cases. The city-state so far has reported more than 61,000 cases, with 31 deaths.

Hong Kong reported one imported case Monday, taking the total to 11,825, with 210 deaths.
