ports and leisure retailer PT Map Aktif Adiperkasa (MAP Active), which trades on the Indonesia Stock Exchange as MAPA, has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with New York-based Foot Locker to open the brand’s first stores in Indonesia.

Foot Locker announced on Friday that it planned to open two shops and a local webstore in Indonesia in the fourth quarter of this year and more stores in 2022. Entering the Indonesian market was part of the company’s plan to expand its Southeast Asian operations.

“Foot Locker is committed to creating unrivalled customer experiences around the globe. Partnering with MAPA will help us deliver on that commitment in an incredibly important market with long-term growth potential,” Scott Martin, Asia Pacific executive vice president and CEO at Foot Locker, said in a press statement.

The company says it has around 2,900 retail stores in 27 countries across North America, Asia, Australia, Europe and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, MAP Active operates more than 1,300 retail stores in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam across three business segments, namely sports, leisure and kids.

A subsidiary of lifestyle retailer PT Mitra Adi Perkasa (MAP), MAP Active manages a range of international brands, including footwear brands Converse, Dr. Martens, New Balance and Skechers.

“We have been striving to partner with outstanding global retailers that can complement our goals to maximize the growth potential of brands”, said Virendra Prakash Sharma, CEO at MAP Group.

“Foot Locker’s iconic status at the center of sneaker and youth culture is unprecedented, and we are sure its omni-channel retail model will add another dimension for Indonesian malls and consumers,” Sharma added.
