Jakarta will put seven points on the finance agenda for next year’s G20 summit in Indonesia, but the main focus is recovering from the pandemic collectively, the government has announced just weeks ahead of this year’s G20 summit in Rome.
The government plans to lead a global discussion on how to move on from the COVID-19 pandemic at next year’s Group of 20 (G20) summit, which will take place in Indonesia.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati shared details of Indonesia’s G20 agenda just weeks ahead of this year’s summit, which is to be held in Rome from Oct. 30 to 31.
Recovering from the pandemic in a collective manner is to be a key theme at the summit expected to take place in Bali, with other agenda points ranging from central bank-issued digital currencies to tax rules for digital services.
The minister said G20 member countries would coordinate efforts to restore the global economy and discuss when they would start phasing out fiscal and monetary stimulus.
“This will be one of the most important discussions in the finance track,” Sri Mulyani said in an online press conference on Tuesday.
“The question will be how to design and at what point to begin the exit policy together, when every country has a different economic recovery, both regarding the speed and how equal that recovery will be across regions.”
