Paris will arrange funding for the study as several French companies have signaled interest in an upcoming tender for the project.
he French government, through its finance ministry and banking institutions, plans to provide US$190 million to fund a feasibility study for Indonesia’s national data center project.
Indonesia’s National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has appointed the European country to carry out the study, which is to be conducted by French engineering firm Sofrecom.
The funds would be guaranteed by export credit agency Bpifrance Assurance Export.
“Today, an important step has been taken, as we have signed a financial protocol that would enable financing and determine the modalities of such financing,” the French Embassy in Indonesia wrote in a press release on Wednesday.
The release went on to explain that several French companies had shown interest in participating in an upcoming tender for the study project.
The data center is deemed necessary to support Indonesia’s e-government development as well as to improve data sovereignty and data protection.
The case for [e-government] development had strengthened with the COVID-19 crisis and mobility restrictions, the embassy wrote, given the distance between regions in the Indonesian archipelago.
