Pondok Indah Mall, which is located in the eponymous upscale residential complex in South Jakarta, opened its doors to visitors on Monday, although activity there was not as lively as before the pandemic.

Some visitors came to shop while others appeared to be enjoying walks or savoring the atmosphere.

"I bought clothes and perfume for my mother's birthday gift," said Lani, a woman from neighboring Depok, West Java, who was holding a shopping bag filled with her purchases.

During the transitional large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), known as the “new normal”, the Jakarta administration has remained strict about mandatory COVID-19 health protocols, requiring the reopened shopping centers to provide hand washing facilities, hand sanitizer and body temperature checks. The government is also requiring visitors to use face masks and maintain physical distance in the malls.
