wo new ONE world champions etched their names into the history books at ONE Fight Night 3: Lineker vs. Andrade at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, on Oct. 21.
In the action-packed show’s co-main event, Regian Eersel scored a split-decision win over Sinsamut Klinmee to capture the inaugural ONE lightweight Muay Thai world title, becoming a two-sport ONE world champion in the process.
The ONE lightweight kickboxing world champion used his reach to pelt Sinsamut from the outside with punches and low kicks, and though the Thai star hit back with plenty of his own punch and kick combos, it was not enough to sway the judges in the end.
Ushering in that bout was the inaugural ONE lightweight submission grappling world title battle between American grappling-ace Kade Ruotolo and Sambo world-champion Uali Kurzhev.
Ruotolo proved too slick for the Russian overall, and he submitted him by heel hook at 4:26.00 of the 10-minute round. By doing so, he became the organization’s first-ever ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion -- and he also earned a US$50,000 bonus from ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
The main event bout between John Lineker and number-2 ranked contender Fabricio Andrade was ruled a no-contest after Andrade accidentally hit Lineker with a knee to the groin, leaving the latter unable to continue.
