Former minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo of the NasDem Partey failed to turn up tofora second round of questioning on Wednesday, citing family affairs, as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) intensifies its investigation into alleged corruption at the Agriculture Ministry.
His return to the country ends days of speculation over his whereabouts in Europe with deputy minister previously says that the last communication with Syahrul was made before he departed for Spain with several ministry officials and staff.
KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri refused to disclose the identity of the suspect in the alleged graft case involving the Agriculture Ministry, saying that the suspect will be disclosed in an official press conference.
The second corruption scandal this year to implicate a NasDem Cabinet minister may take a toll on the party’s 2024 electoral prospects and those of its presidential nominee, Anies Baswedan, as the opposition figurehead contends with a slide in opinion polling.
