What started as a ruckus at a K-pop concert in Malaysia has snowballed into a wave of racist online attacks by some South Korean users against Southeast Asians, triggering a rare show of regional solidarity across social media.
The Jakarta Police have arrested Fransiska Dwi Melani, director of concert promoter PT Melani Citra Permata (Mecima Pro), after naming her a suspect in a fraud and embezzlement case linked to a concert the firm held for South Korean girl group TWICE in Jakarta in 2023.
On Friday, the band marks the 12th anniversary of its debut, with the Hybe headquarters in Seoul wrapped with the slogan "WE ARE BACK" and thousands of fans set to descend on the city for celebrations.
This week, four BTS members will complete their service. Two were discharged last year, and the final member, SUGA, who has been working as a social service agent for alternative non-active duty service, will be released later this month.
