The United Development Party (PPP) has called for the dissolution of the Golkar Party-led United Indonesia Coalition (KIB), the first electoral alliance to be formed ahead of the 2024 elections, if members cannot agree on backing Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo’s presidential bid.
Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto introduced several high-profile members to the party’s ranks this week, including Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) chief Mochamad “Iwan Bule” Iriawan, as politicians shift gears to determine the line-up for next year’s general election.
Gerindra Party politician Sandiaga Uno, who served as running mate for party patron Prabowo Subianto in the previous presidential election, will decide after the Idul Fitri holiday whether to quit his party to join the Islam-based United Development Party (PPP), which has backed him as a potential candidate for the 2024 race.
Member of Gerindra’s central board Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said Prabowo was intent on keeping Sandiaga within the party and that the party had a plan for him if the tourism and creative economy minister decided to stay.
