A group of Greenpeace activists and Papuan youth held a peaceful protest on the first day of an ongoing critical minerals expo in Jakarta to demand protection for Papua's biodiverse marine region of Raja Ampat.
A comprehensive strategy that addresses the long-standing legacy of mutual distrust as well as deeply rooted cultural factors, including traditional warfare, is needed to effectively resolve the unending conflict in Papua.
Triadi Atmono, head of the Trenggalek Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), said the landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall that persisted from Sunday into Monday. “The landslide buried three houses and damaged seven others, impacting 10 families and displacing 30 individuals,” he said.
Torrential rain triggered a landslide late on Friday in a small-scale mine run by local residents in the Arfak mountains in West Papua province, said Abdul Muhari, the spokesperson of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency.
