View all search resultsAlthough the Indonesian Army has issued a technical instruction that removes the test, there are currently no public policies in the form of legislation that guarantees the abolition of virginity testing in the Indonesian Military (TNI).
"Two-finger tests", where doctors check the hymen of female recruits to try to determine their virginity, was systematic, abusive and cruel, according to the New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW), which conducted investigations in 2014 renewed calls for it to end.
SAS' lawyer, Imam Moklas, explained that his client also took issue with the association using the loss of one’s virginity as grounds for dismissing an athlete from the training center. Imam has filed a complaint to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, the Youth and Sports Ministry, KONI and Persani.
