orean drama filming locations have been some of the most popular destinations for K-drama enthusiasts visiting the country. Among the numerous options available, here are some of the most iconic places to explore.

Nami Island

Nami Island is easily one of the most noteworthy Korean drama filming sites, as many scenes for the 2002 megahit Winter Sonata were acted out in this place. In addition to photo spots related to the drama, the half-moon shaped island in Gangwon province is often visited for its beautiful autumn foliage. To fully explore the island, visitors can opt for a leisurely walk of two to three hours or ride a bicycle along the pathway.

Taebaek City

This city in Gangwon province suddenly became a favorite tourist destination following the hype around the most popular drama of 2016, Descendants of the Sun. Although the original drama set in the city was dismantled after the shooting ended, the ‘Urk’ military set that appeared in the drama was later rebuilt – to the delight of many fans.

Petite France

This small area in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi province, is famous for French-style buildings with reference to the famous work Le Petit Prince. It has been used as a filming location for many TV series, including Beethoven Virus (2008), Secret Garden (2010) and My Love from the Stars (2014). Tourists visiting this place may also want to explore the nearby Nami Island.

Korean Folk Village

Along with MBC Dramia, Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi province, is often used as the background in historical-themed dramas like Jewel in the Palace (2004) or Dae Jang Geum (2004) as well as Moon Embracing the Sun (2012) and Arang and the Magistrate (2012). This place also offers picturesque Joseon-era houses and interesting activities, such as Korean folk games and a program to experience traditional life.

Admission fee: 15,000 KRW for adults

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

Since 2014, Seoul’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) has hosted many TV programs, ranging from variety shows like Infinity Challenge and Running Man to popular dramas, such as My Love from the Star (2013) and The Producers and She Was Pretty (2015). Adorned with a distinct space ship-shaped exterior designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid, visitors are invited to explore various shops and function halls related to art and design as well as the famous outdoor LED rose garden.
