or the 13th time, the Bintan Triathlon is back, with 1,400 athletes from 30 countries slated to take part in the two-day international sports event.
“The participants come from 30 countries such as England, Australia, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia,” said Bintan Tourism and Culture department head Luki Zaiman Prawira.

Bintan Triathlon 2017 will run from May 20 to 21 at Nirwana Gardens Resort in Bintan.
The race is divided into five categories: Olympic Distance (1.5km swim; 40km bike; 10km run), Sprint Distance (750m swim; 20km bike; 5km run), Youth Distance (300m swim; 12km bike; 3km run), Kids Distance (150m swim; 6km bike; 1.5km run) and Fun Duo Challenge (1.5km run; 150m swim; dash to the finish line).
The triathlon is commonly regarded as a warm-up event for the Ironman 70.3 triathlon, which will take place in Bintan Island in August. (asw)
