Singapore Airlines pilots, cabin crew to enjoy Batam's golf tourism

round 100 pilots and cabin crew of Singapore’s national flag carrier Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary SilkAir are set to travel to Batam in Riau Islands on June 6 to 7 to enjoy off days playing golf.

Set to stay at Batam View Beach Resort, the guests will play golf on two different golf courses, namely Sukajadi Golf Course and Palm Springs Golf & Country Club.

These golf courses have hosted international events and offer stunning views of Batam.

“For Singaporeans, these are heaven-sent. Also, playing golf in Batam is a lot cheaper than in Singapore, and the locals in Batam are very friendly,” said Batam View Beach Resort general manager Andy Fong.

The pilots and cabin crew will also be served a welcome dinner accompanied by live a music performance and a farewell lunch prior to leaving for Singapore.

“Golf events in Batam have the potential to bring in tourists from Singapore and Malaysia. We’re going to make Batam the haven for golfers,” said Tourism Ministry's archipelago tourism marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti.

In the upcoming months, Batam will host plenty of golf events, such as the Ladies Golf Open Nongsa Batam on July 16-17, the National Independence Day Celebration Friendly Golf Tournament on Aug. 31 and the Nongsa Cup Golf Tournament on Oct. 29-30. (kes)
