Obama, Jokowi chat over warm tea and Indonesian-style meatballs

ormer US President Barack Obama received a warm welcome by President Joko Widodo, First Lady Iriana and their son Kaesang Pangarep at Bogor Palace on Friday, June 30.

Wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and black plants, Obama arrived at 03:30 p.m. where he was first asked to fill in the guestbook before entering Garuda room.

Both President Jokowi and Obama then went to Grand Garden Café located within the compound of Bogor Botanical Gardens using a golf cart.

At the café, they were welcomed with warm tea and traditional snacks such as onde-onde (glutinous rice balls), kue mangkok (rice flour cupcakes), talam ubi (steamed sweet potato cake), panada cakalang (fried bread with Manadonese-style tuna fish filling) and lemper ayam (glutinous rice stuffed with chicken meat and wrapped in banana leaves).

As the rain started to pour, President Jokowi and Obama then moved into the balcony where they were served bowls of Indonesian-style meatballs, Obama's favorite local dish. 

The meeting was concluded with a group photo at 04:30 p.m. and Obama returned to Jakarta where he is scheduled to address the fourth Diaspora congress in South Jakarta on Saturday. (asw)
