ixteen Buddhist monks and journalists from Thailand and Vietnam are among the participants of the Vesak Day 2562 familiarization trip (famtrip) to Yogyakarta and Borobudur temple in Magelang, Central Java initiated by the Tourism Ministry from May 27 to June 1.
The famtrip aims to promote Indonesian tourism through Vesak Day, which is observed by Buddhists across the archipelago and the world that will be centered at the complex of Borobudur temple on Tuesday.
The ministry's marketing development I deputy, I Gde Pitana, said in a statement that the ministry was seeking to promote the temple and its surroundings to Buddhist monks and communities as well as journalists from Thailand and Vietnam to increase the number of Buddhist people visiting Indonesia.

"Among the famtrip participants are six journalists and nine monks from Thailand and Vietnam, as well as one liaison from Indonesian Embassy [KBRI] in Hanoi," added Pitana.
In addition to Borobudur temple, other destinations scheduled during the famtrip are the temples of Prambanan, Sewu and Ratu Boko; Candirejo tourism village; Omah Kecebong tourism village, the Yogyakarta Palace and Taman Sari; and Malioboro, reported kompas.com. (kes)
