ecently it has become commonplace for hotels to be perched in the upper floors of skyscrapers. This type of hotel is making its mark all over Asia Pacific, catering to the jet-setting travelers who are on the constant lookout for experiences up above.
And what is better than a memorable meal or sunset cocktail to complete the skyscraper experience? Here is a list of three skyscraper hotels in Asia Pacific:
Conrad Xiamen, China
The tallest Conrad property in the world towering at 300 meters, China’s Conrad Xiamen has graced the city’s skyline since 2016. Its sail-shaped twin building is a view that one cannot miss in the Siming CBD.
Baicheng beach and popular sites such as Xiamen Botanical Garden and Haiwan Park are within walking distance of the hotel, while Gulangyu Island, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, is visible from the rooms.
The rooms are between the 41st and 53rd floors, and the 54th floor houses Coast Bar & Grill, Xiamen’s highest bar, which provides the perfect place for an evening tipple. Several F&B outlets in the hotel include restaurants that serve Fujian and Cantonese cuisine, seafood and afternoon tea.
Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, Thailand
Southeast Asia’s first Waldorf Astoria is slated to open on August 30 in Bangkok, designed by Hong Kong architect André Fu of renowned design studio AFSO as well as design-and-concept firm AvroKO.
The ocean-wave inspired skyscraper can be found in the heart of Ratchaprasong, with business and shopping precincts just walking distance away. Guests can gaze at the structures of downtown Bangkok from one of the 171 hotel rooms and suites, then later try working out at the 16th-floor fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor infinity pool.
The top of the building is reserved for drinks and meals with dazzling views of the city. Guests can visit grilled meat and seafood restaurant Bull & Bear, order cocktails inspired by the Old Waldorf Astoria Bar Book from Loft, as well as setting up a rendezvous in the hidden Champagne Bar on the 57th floor.

Hilton Surfers Paradise, Australia
Standing 194 meters tall, Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residences has been one of the tallest skyscrapers along Australia’s Gold Coast since 2011. Along with the 169 guest rooms, Hilton also houses 220 residences that have up to four bedrooms. These rooms and residences are accompanied by striking floor-to-ceiling views of the world-famous Surfers Paradise Beach and its surrounding coastline.
Outdoors, guests and residents can hang out in The Deck Bar, a 1,500 square meter area comprising four pools, a spa and a sauna, as well as a picnic site and playground.
Business travelers can relax at the 15th floor Executive Lounge, which boasts a 270-degree view of Surfers Paradise.
Hilton’s signature restaurant, Catch, has recently refreshed its menu as executive chef Kathy Tindall has added sustainable seafood with subtle Asian touches. For a night out with wine and cocktails, foodies can head over to the FIX bar and experience drinks with a vintage-style interior as the setting. (saz/mut)
