A capsule hotel or a hostel are viable options for those traveling on a shoestring budget.

Three budget lodging options opened recently in Jakarta, offering not only affordable rates, but also comfortable stays.

These spots come with trendy designs, proving that traveling on a budget does not mean settling for unsavory rooms in which to sleep.

The Digital Airport Hotel

Greater Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has opened a capsule hotel for those looking for a place to spend the night.

The Digital Airport Hotel is located in Terminal 3 and features a minimalist and futuristic design, reminding visitors of a spaceship.

The hotel offers two types of rooms, Alpha and Beta. The former is equipped with a 22-inch TV and a portable desk, while the latter comes with 32-inch TV sans the desk.

In addition to the in-room facilities, guests can also expect cable TV, a USB charging outlet, a communal shower, free Wi-Fi, blankets, pillows, lockers, bathroom amenities and complimentary bottled water.

The rooms are available for stays of six hours or one day starting at Rp 250,000 (US$17) for Alpha and Rp 375,000 for Beta.

KINI Luxury Capsule

Located in Pluit, North Jakarta, KINI Luxury Capsule boasts a trendy design with a touch of Indonesia.

The room is equipped with a locker, a folding table, two USB charging outlets and a universal plug, making it convenient for backpackers.

With a starting price of Rp 179,000, the capsule hotel also offers various free classes, including batik-making, Bahasa Indonesia and more.

Additionally, KINI Luxury Capsule also hosts its Culinary Tour on Thursday night, allowing foreign travelers to sample some of the best foods in town.

NOMAD Hostel Kemang

Kemang in South Jakarta is a popular area among expats. Different from the many business hotels in the area, this colorful hostel  deserves a spot on your Instagram feed.

The NOMAD Hostel Kemang by Archipelago International comes with 192 pods split into four room types: 10 Pods, 14 Pods, 16 Pods and 20 Pods. The rooms are separated for male and female travelers.

It is equipped with spacious bathrooms, common areas, a swimming pool and coin laundry services, making it convenient for a long-term stay.

Currently, the hotel offers an introductory price of Rp 88,000 net per person valid until October. (kes)
