Garuda Indonesia to operate direct route from Jakarta to Nias

This direct flight will allow travelers to visit the regency's capital Gunung Sitoli, access Nias' world-famous surfing spots and lompat batu (stone jumping) tourist attraction.

National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is set to operate a new service from Jakarta to Nias in North Sumatra starting Thursday.

This direct flight will allow travelers to visit the regency's capital Gunung Sitoli, access Nias' world-famous surfing spots and lompat batu (stone jumping) tourist attraction. 

Using the CRJ Bombardier 1000 Next-Gen that can accommodate 96 passengers, the route will operate three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Marking the launch of the new route, a cooperation agreement was signed on Wednesday between the carrier and the Nias Island administration.

"This service is part of our effort to strengthen connectivity that is also part of Garuda Indonesia's support for the development of the economy and tourism in Nias Island," said Garuda Indonesia commercial director Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah in a statement.

The flight from Jakarta will depart at 7:35 a.m. local time and arrive at Nias' Binaka Gunung Sitoli Airport at 9:55 a.m. Meanwhile, the return trip will include transit in Padang, leaving Nias at 10:50 a.m., arriving in Padang at 12 p.m., and depart for Jakarta at 12:50 p.m. and arrive at the capital's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 3 p.m. (kes)
