T

he process of creating a child’s passport is similar to that of an adult’s and was made relatively easier this year with parents able to register and make an appointment online prior to going to the immigration office.

As reported by kompas.com on Tuesday, parents are required to submit copies of their electronic IDs (e-KTP), family card with the child's name on it, the child's birth certificate, their marriage certificate, their passports (if available) and a Rp 6,000 (42 US cents) stamp duty.

"The parents are also required to fill out a statement letter that will be provided by the immigration office," said Immigration Directorate General public relations head Sam Fernando as quoted by kompas.com.

Parents who are divorced will have to include their divorce certificate and a child custody letter from the court.

If only one parent is able to go to the immigration office, they are required to bring a stamped authorization letter from their spouse.

According to 35-year-old Pranatalia Manik, who applied for her child’s passport in September, the entire process at the immigration office took around one hour.

"I arrived at 8 a.m. in accordance with the online registration period. By 9 a.m., I was paying [for the fee] at a nearby ATM," she said.

She was able to pick up her child’s passport seven days later.

Pranatalia highly recommended registering online at least two days prior to visiting the immigration office.
