Indonesian team wins 'Dubai Ultimate Challenge'

ndonesian actor Ammar Zoni and YouTuber Edho Zell were crowned champions of Sony Pictures Television-owned pay television channel AXN’s Dubai Ultimate Challenge, where three teams travel around Dubai while completing challenges to create compelling Instagram stories.

Taking on attractions like skydiving or diving with sharks in each episode, the Indonesian duo competed against celebrity teams from Singapore (Melissa C. Koh and Sophia Chong) and Malaysia (Sharifah Sakinah and Siti Saleha).

“Skydiving was a definite highlight as it is a massive adrenaline rush and provided a bird’s eye view of this amazing city,” said Ammar in a statement.

Teammate Edho added that the traditional Bedouin camp at the Al Marmoom Desert Safari should be a go-to experience. “In this place, you can explore the majestic desert, mount a camel and even dance along with traditional music,” he said. 

Dubai Ultimate Challenge is a short-form reality series produced by AXN Asia in partnership with Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing. The United Arab Emirates is on the rise as a holiday destination for Indonesians.

According to latest official tourism data, the Emirates welcomed 12.08 million international overnight visitors from January to September 2019, with a volume growth of 4.3 percent. Listed among its highest regional contributors to visitor numbers are South Asia and Southeast Asia, with 16 percent.

Challenges covered in the series included skydiving over the Palm Jumeriah, diving with sharks at Aquatrek Xtreme at Atlantis, shopping for unique souvenirs at the Old Souk, experiencing desert life at Al Marmoon Bedouin camp and making chocolate at Mirzam’s Chocolate factory – all of which are attractions that also available for tourists.

As the winners, Ammar and Edho get to choose one of #TeamIndonesia supporters from Facebook, Instagram or YouTube to receive a two-person three-night trip to Dubai, with both round trip airfares and accommodation covered. Winners will be announced through Visit Dubai and AXN Asia’s social media. (vel/kes)
