ow-cost carrier AirAsia unveiled a new livery on Wednesday that puts a spotlight on Belitung as one of Indonesia's 10 New Bali tourist destinations.

Dubbed "Let's Go To Belitung", the new livery on the AirAsia Airbus 320-200 was introduced at H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin International Airport in Tanjung Pandan in collaboration with the Belitung administration.

According to a statement, the livery's design was inspired by various iconic places in Belitung that are adorned with blue, orange and yellow. Among the attractions highlighted were Tanjung Kelayang, Lengkuas Island, a replica of SD Muhammadiyah Laskar Pelangi elementary school, Gurok Pakuk Waterfall and the tarsius, a primate species endemic to the region.

"We're very proud to know that Belitung's beauty has become one of two AirAsia's destination-inspired liveries," said Belitung Regent H. Sahani Saleh in the statement, adding that the opening of the airline's international service from Kuala Lumpur to Belitung in October has helped increased tourism in the province, "as well as mark H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin's status as an international airport".

Meanwhile, AirAsia Indonesia president director Veranita Yosephine Sinaga said the new livery was part of the company's long-term commitment to promote Belitung as one of the country's 10 New Bali destinations.

"With the availability of 13 Asia-Pacific destinations that are connected with Belitung through our fly-thru service via Kuala Lumpur, hopefully the world will get to know Indonesian tourism more through the beauty of Belitung," she added.

AirAsia has been operating a Belitung-Jakarta service since Oct. 1 last year and direct flights from Belitung to Kuala Lumpur since Oct. 2, 2019. (kes)
