n the wake of the global novel coronavirus outbreak, Indonesian embassies in countries with confirmed COVID-19 cases have issued recommendations for Indonesian nationals to avoid infection.
Below is a list of recommendations made by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry for Indonesians in countries with COVID-19 cases.
1. Hong Kong
The Hong Kong government has banned access for non-Hong Kong citizens traveling from South Korea. This ban is imposed for those traveling directly from South Korea and also for those who were in South Korea within 14 days of their arrival in Hong Kong.
This travel ban started on Tuesday at 6 am local time.
Indonesians who were in South Korea in the last 14 days and want to travel to Hong Kong are recommended to postpone their travel until local authorities lift the ban.
2. Italy
As a spate of confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in northern Italy in the past few days, the Indonesian Embassy in Rome has responded by releasing a letter recommending Indonesians in Italy to avoid visiting cities such Codogna in Lombardy, Vo Euganeo in Veneto and Turin in Piedmont.
3. South Korea
The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul has warned Indonesians to postpone their travels to Daegu, the epicenter of the virus outbreak in South Korea.
The embassy also warns Indonesians in South Korea to take precautions to avoid infection by maintaining their physical and psychological health, donning face masks, repeatedly washing their hands with soap, eating only well-done meat and avoiding crowded places.
4. Japan
As with the embassy in South Korea, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo also warns Indonesians in the country to be extra careful in maintaining personal hygiene and urges them to keep a look out for updates from the local authorities. (gis)
