However, there are several channels online in which you can reminiscence about the joys of being on a train ride without ever leaving your house.
Although not as fast and practical as air travel, train rides are still desired by many for their slow pace and romantic experience. Many modern travelers are also drawn by the scenery offered through their long journey hours.
Below is a list of some of the most scenic train rides in the world as compiled by Insider:
Rocky Mountaineer
The Rocky Mountaineer Gold Leaf Service has shared with the world the experience of riding its train through the Canadian Rockies from Banff to Vancouver via Kamloops. The video starts from Calgary Airport on a Brewster coach to Banff Station.
During the train ride, you can expect to be pampered with the beauty of Vancouver’s cerulean shores, giant plains, emerald-green lakes, alpine walls and glacier-topped mountains.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is a luxurious, five-star carriage that will take you through Northern Italy to London, Paris and Venice.
Best known as the background for Agatha Christie’s murder mystery novel, the train journey will see you pampered with the most glamorous service from the 1920s.
A ride on a Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will give you the best view of Western Europe’s charming countryside and sunny mountains.
Flam Railway
This railroad journey will take you to the gems of Scandinavia. The 20.2-kilometer ride offers you a view of Norway’s fjords, mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, countless national parks and even the Northern Lights if you are super lucky.
The journey includes a look out at Hardangervidda National Park, the towering Kjosfossen waterfall, and the old wooden Flåm church, which was built in 1667.
Bernina Express
The Bernina Express connects Chur (or Davos) in Switzerland with Poschiavo in Switzerland and Tirano in Italy by crossing the Swiss Engadin Alps. The train runs along the World Heritage Site known as the Rhaetian Railway amid the Albula/Bernina Landscapes.
The four-hour journey on a 90-mile line stretches from Chur to St. Moritz in eastern Switzerland, across the mountainous border to Tirano in northern Italy. It is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.
The train goes through 55 tunnels and 196 bridges, across alpine tundra, gigantic waterfalls and wild ravines.

The Jacobite Steam Train
The Jacobite Steam Train is a steam locomotive-hauled tourist train that operates on the West Highland Line in Scotland, it is also known as the Harry Potter train.
The line has been open since 1901 and has operated through various names.
The Jacobite Stream train runs for 42 miles from Fort William to Mallaig, giving the passengers stunning views through mountains and glens. Among the landmarks passed are Ben Nevis and Loch Ness.
The Eastern & Oriental Express
The 19-coach sleeping car express departs from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong station to Malaysia and Singapore.
You can enjoy sunsets amid the beautiful scenery of misty Malaysian forests on the veranda of the rear car.
Inside the train, you can expect to enjoy modern en-suite facilities as well as luxurious services.
The Kandy to Ella Train
One of the most scenic train lines in South Asia, the Kandy to Ella train starts in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and snakes its way through misty bush before going through the stunning tea-plantation mountains of Ella.
