P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo held a bilateral meeting with visiting Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh at the Bogor presidential palace on Monday.

A number of senior government ministers including Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, State Secretary Pratikno and head of Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) Penny Lukito joined President Jokowi during the meeting.

Shtayyeh arrived at the Bogor palace at 10:27 and was greeted by Jokowi before inspecting the guard of honor.

The two leaders are expected to have a joint press conference later in the afternoon.

Shtayyeh, who took over from his predecessor Rami Hamdallah, met earlier with Jokowi on the sideline of the COP26 in Glasgow, the United Kingdom, in November last year.

Indonesia’s commitment and support for the struggle of Palestinian independence has become the cornerstone of the administration of Jokowi.

In August this year, former vice president Jusuf Kalla expressed his hope that the country would be more active in supporting Palestine’s struggle for independence, suggesting that it could do more to build ties between the conflicting parties.
