President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expected to discuss various bilateral and regional issues during the former's visit to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
resident Prabowo Subianto arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning to meet and discuss with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim about ASEAN and other regional issues.
The President departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 7 a.m. and arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 10 a.m. local time. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Maj. Teddy Indra Wijaya during the trip.
According to a statement issued by the Presidential Office, the two leaders were set to talk about various bilateral and multilateral issues during a luncheon.
A statement from the Malaysian Foreign Ministry added that with the country assuming ASEAN’s chair this year, both leaders were “expected to exchange views on ASEAN Community Building, enhancing regional cooperation and addressing common global challenges.”
In a speech at the Malaysian Economic Forum in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning, Anwar told Malaysian businesspeople, officials and other attendants that he would discuss with Prabowo ways to “improve the economy of both countries and cooperation between Indonesian and Malaysian companies”, including in pushing for digital transformation.
President Prabowo was initially scheduled to make his first presidential visit to Malaysia in December, with him expected to meet with Anwar and former Thailand prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Langkawi to discuss an array of regional issues.
But the meeting was postponed, as Anwar said the President had caught a cold and had promised to return to Malaysia as soon as possible.
