utch far-right leader Geert Wilders revealed Wednesday he had held an "excellent" meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
"Thank you so much Mr President... for the excellent meeting we just had and our discussion about the need for tougher immigration laws," said Wilders on X, sharing a selfie of the pair.
The meeting will likely raise eyebrows in the host country. Wilders is the leader of the largest party in the Dutch parliament but holds no official government position.
He upended Dutch politics earlier this month when he pulled his far-right PVV Freedom Party out of the shaky coalition, bringing down the government.
His withdrawal happened only three weeks before the NATO summit and sparked fresh elections set for October 29.
Wilders has made no secret of his admiration for the US president, who in turn has cozied up to Europe's far-right politicians.
Trump said he "didn't know" Wilders, whom he described as a "very nice guy".
The US leader said he was "not upset" by the anti-Islam views of Wilders.
"It's just his view. He's unhappy with the way things are going in this country," said Trump.
