n Indonesian national was among hundreds of workers arrested by the United States immigration officials at a Hyundai-LG electric-car battery plant being built in Georgia, the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta said over the weekend.

Last Thursday, US immigration officers arrested at least 475 workers, including over 300 South Koreans, on the construction site of the joint venture between South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai Motor and battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution in Bryan County, just outside of Savannah, Georgia. The raid reportedly was part of a US Department of Homeland Security probe into unlawful employment practices.

The Foreign Ministry in Jakarta said that the Indonesian citizen caught during the raid is an employee of Indonesian-based PT Hyundai LG Industry (HLI) Green Power located in Karawang, West Java, identified only by their initials CHT.

CHT was reportedly visiting the construction site in Georgia on a business trip with two other employees from HLI, whose nationalities were not disclosed.

“CHT is on a one-month business trip in the US and has covered [the required] documents, including the passport, visa and an invitation letter from the [Hyundai] company,” the ministry’s citizen protection director Judha Nugraha said on Saturday.

Judha said CHT is currently detained with most of the other workers at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Processing Center in Folkston, Georgia. The ministry has not received further details about the detainment under ICE.
