From food reservation to entertainment, automotive, health care, digital marketing services and data analytics, Indians are leaving no stone unturned.
riven by a saturated local market, some Indians are now looking at Indonesia as an attractive destination to fulfil their start-up dreams. Due to similar demographics and a rising middle income crowd, all the tech and product innovations happening in countries like India have become equally relevant for the Indonesian market. The proximity to Singapore and growing familiarity with the English language have made it easier for Indians to operate here.
More than 20 Indian start-ups have expanded operations in Indonesia in the last three years. All of them have one thing in common: Indonesia’s big internet using mobile phone market. The number of internet users in Indonesia, which has a population of over 250 million people, is projected to grow from 93 million in 2015 to 123 million in 2018, making Indonesia one of the biggest online markets worldwide.
From food reservation to entertainment, automotive, health care, digital marketing services and data analytics, Indians are leaving no stone unturned.
Indonesia’s strong eating out culture, encouraged the entry of Zomato, one of India’s oldest food reservation websites in Indonesia more than two years back. Indians have also tried their hand in Indonesia’s health-care space, with the launch of Practo, which provides a large doctor database for consumers.
One of India’s largest movie and events ticket booking websites, BookMyShow, has also expanded in Indonesia with BookMyShow Indonesia in 2016. Their automobile information provider company, Cardekho, recently launched an auto portal, carbay. co.id, in Indonesia which helps consumers find their desired car.
The Indonesian market has attracted not only online retail services, but has also seen interest from companies focused on business-to-business services as well. India’s digital media company SVG India, for instance, is quite upbeat about its new venture, calling Indonesia more creative and open than even India.
Betaout, an Indian marketing automation platform for e-commerce companies, and Inmobi, a global mobile advertising and discovery platform, have also recently launched operations here. Even the nascent, online to offline delivery market in Indonesia has been tapped by an Indian with his company Fabelio.
