s part of the nationwide effort to suppress COVID-19 infections among Indonesian children, the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry has collaborated with Tanoto Foundation and the Bunda Jakarta Maternity and Children’s Hospital (RSIA) in launching the picture book Rubik Unik Corona.

Published by Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia (KPG), Rubik Unik Corona is designed to provide information on the COVID-19 pandemic in a way that is easily understandable to children.

In marking the launch of Rubik Unik Corona, the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, Tanoto Foundation, RSIA Bunda Jakarta, and KPG held a virtual playdate. The playdate featured a series of events, including a story time with Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga, a singalong with author and Lagu Anak Indonesia Balita cofounder Chitra Astriana, an interactive learning experience with Dr. Rifan Fauzie, and a coloring session with Jemari founder Martina Ekaristi.

In her remarks during the book launch that addressed all children across the nation, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga said that access to easily understandable information was part of upholding the rights of Indonesian children.

“This book can be used for family activities at home. You can all stay happy and cheerful at home, as you can find new ideas by reading the book. After reading together, I hope that you will all follow the health messages in the book,” said minister Bintang.

“During these tough times, our children need us more than ever. Let us work together to fulfill their rights and protect them, no matter the circumstances,” she adding.

Tanoto Foundation Global CEO J. Satrijo Tanudjojo, who also appeared at the event, underscored the importance of teaching children about how to prevent getting COVID-19.

“Tanoto Foundation, as an independent philanthropic foundation founded by Sukanto Tanoto and Tinah Bingei Tanoto, believes that early childhood education is key. There are no age limits for education, especially on [COVID-19] prevention. Everyone must learn and care about this issue, especially children. The sooner they learn, the better,” he said.

PT Bundamedika Tbk chief commissioner Ivan Rizal Sini noted that Rubik Unik Corona allowed children to gain understanding about the pandemic and COVID-19 in a fun way, without fear.

“As the book is aimed at children, the role of parents in educating their children is, of course, very important,” he said.

Rubik Unik Corona is the first book in the “Buku Cerita Anak SIGAP” series from Tanoto Foundation, which provides high-quality, easily accessible children’s books to foster love of reading and stimulate development among Indonesian children.

The printed edition of Rubik Unik Corona can be purchased at Gramedia bookstores in Indonesia, while the e-book version can be downloaded for free at www.kemenpppa.go.id/lib/uploads/list/1b6b1-rubik-unik-corona.pdf, https://berjarak.kemenpppa.go.id/rubik-unik-corona/, https://sigap.tanotofoundation.org/, and https://www.bunda.co.id/web/rsiabundajakarta
