The move comes after the ministry said it had considered “various recent developments in society.”
he Transportation Ministry has postponed a planned price hike for motorcycle ride-hailing services that was supposed to be implemented on Monday, arguing that such a move might have created an additional burden for consumers already struggling with inflation.
The plan to adjust the price of online motorcycle taxi services was stated in Transportation Ministry Decree KP 564/2022 regarding guidelines for calculating the cost of motorbikes used for the benefit of the community.
Explaining the postponement, Transportation Ministry spokeswoman Adita Irawati said the decision was made after the ministry had considered “various recent developments in society."
"In addition, the postponement is needed to get more input from stakeholders, as well as to conduct a review to get the best results," she said in an official statement released on Sunday.
The statement made no mention of a new date on which the plan might be implemented.
She added that the Transportation Ministry was also seeking input from transportation experts regarding online motorcycle taxi fares.
The ministry said it would inform the public as soon as a decision was made on the matter.
