The Transportation Ministry stated that it has not yet had a specific date for the high-speed railway's inauguration, but the earliest possible date is Oct. 1.
he Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway (HSR) will not be inaugurated on Sept. 8 by President Joko “Jokowi’ Widodo as initially planned, according to the Transportation Ministry, marking another delay for the flagship project.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on Tuesday that President Jokowi is going to India for a state visit and therefore the inauguration date needs to be changed.
For now, the government plans to hold the inauguration on Oct. 1, but he said it is still not final.
“Insya Allah [God willing] it [the inauguration] will be on Oct. 1,” Budi told reporters in Jakarta.
“There will be not a long delay as we ensure that the project is relatively expensive public transport and lay the groundwork for our idea of inter-city mass transit.”
