IDXCarbon recorded a transaction volume of 464,843 tonnes of carbon equivalent worth Rp 29.45 billion since it was launched on September 26 up until October 27.
he Indonesian Carbon Exchange (IDXCarbon) has recorded a trading volume of 464,843 tonnes of carbon equivalent (tCO2e) worth Rp 29.45 billion (US$1.85 million) as of Friday, chief executive for supervision of capital markets, financial derivatives and carbon exchange at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Inarno Djajadi said on Monday.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officially launched IDXCarbon on Sept. 26. The transaction volume was 459,953 tonnes of carbon units with a total of 27 transactions from 15 buyers and one seller.
“Since it was released on September 26 up until October 27, [we] recorded 24 service users receiving permission compared with 16 service users at the initial release,” said Inarno.
IDXCarbon is conducted in the regular markets, negotiated markets and auction markets at 31.78, 5.48 and 62.74 percent, respectively.
“IDXCarbon has huge potential, considering the 3,180 applicants in the National Registry System for Climate Change (SRN-PPI) and the increasing potential of carbon units,” Inarno said.
He added that the OJK would keep pushing the discussion about the carbon taxes, which falls under the authority of the Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF). An initial incentive of a 50 percent discount on transaction fees at IDXCarbon ends on Tuesday.
“However, we still have one incentive, which is a fee waiver for service users,” said Inarno. The incentive is valid until September 2024.
