he government is looking to South Korea for collaboration in the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) as well as carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies that promise to reduce the ecological footprint of coal power.

Nationwide investment in CCS/CCUS was predicted to reach US$ 7.97 billion, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry oil and gas director general Tutuka Ariadji said in a press release on Tuesday, without specifying a timeframe for that projection.

Speaking at the 14th Indonesia-Korea Energy Forum (IKEF) in Jakarta, Tutuka noted that Indonesia was open for discussions with South Korea on collaboration in the field of CCS/CCUS, according to the ministry statement.

Currently, Indonesia has committed itself to reaching net zero carbon emissions (NZE) by 2060 and has developed an energy transition road map to achieve that.

Tutuka stated in the press release that the adoption of CCS/CCUS technology in Indonesia could so far be seen in 15 projects that were being developed. He added that the majority of those projects were expected to be operational by 2030.
