T Solder Tin Andalan Indonesia (Stania), a local tin-based solder manufacturer, has started constructing a factory in Batam, Riau Islands, on Friday.

Stania is a subsidiary of Arsari Group, a mining conglomerate that counts Hashim Djojohadikusumo, brother of president-elect Prabowo Subianto, as president commissioner.

The facility requires Rp 400 billion (US$24.93 million) in investment, of which Rp 100 billion will go toward construction and the remainder for working capital.

“We want to tap the market with a production capacity of up to 16,000 tonnes of solder per year, generating total [annual] revenue of Rp 1.2 trillion. This is our target when the factory is [fully] operational in Batam,” Hashim said on Friday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

The company would produce tin-based solder wire and solder paste, which could be exported to other countries in Asia, Europe and the United States. The raw material of tin would come from Arsari Group’s mine on Bangka Island, located 400 kilometers south of Batam.

Hashim said Batam was located right in the middle of the Malacca Strait, making it a strategic location to set up a factory on the island.
