GoTo reveals 2024’s successes in Three Zeroes sustainability drive

G

oTo Group has reinforced its commitment to a greener Indonesia through the achievements it has made under its Three Zeroes pledge of zero emissions, zero waste and zero barriers.

The biggest digital ecosystem in Indonesia, which includes on-demand delivery and transportation services Gojek and financial technology firm GoTo Financial, presented the progress it made last year in the 2024 Sustainability Report.

Under the Zero Emissions pillar, it reduced emissions by 12,847 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent through its fleet of low-emission vehicles.

In addition, low-emission vehicles made up 3.38 percent of the total distance traveled in 2024, with 6,500 active driver partners using electric vehicles (EVs) each month.

GoTo also increased its active fleet of four-wheeled EVs to 300, and recorded a fivefold increase in completed bookings using EVs.

“In 2024, we successfully reduced our carbon footprint by optimizing operational activities as well as supporting our driver partners and consumers to switch to more environmentally friendly mobility solutions,” said Patrick Walujo, president director of GoTo Group.

In addition to fleet optimization, the company continues to encourage Gojek customers to protect the environment through various in-app initiatives.

As for its Zero Waste pillar, GoTo reduced single-use plastic by 2,004 tonnes, with more than 95 percent of GoFood customers deciding against using disposable cutlery by not selecting the "Request cutlery or straws" option.

GoTo provides training to GoFood’s micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) partners to implement environmentally friendly practices in managing their waste, such as postproduction food composting, while actively encouraging them to use environmentally friendly packaging.

In collaboration with Waste4Change, the company has succeeded in preventing 6.38 tonnes of waste from ending up in landfills.

Meanwhile, more than 1.7 million Gojek customers contributed to the absorption of 14,938.48 tonnes of CO2 emissions by planting more than 239,000 trees in 2024 through the GoGreener carbon offset program.

To complement its zero emissions and zero waste drives, the Zero Barriers pillar aims to remove barriers to economic opportunities for all who participate in the GoTo ecosystem, from employees and driver partners to merchants and consumers.

With a focus on inclusive participation of both individuals and businesses, GoTo’s achievements under the Zero Barriers pillar in 2024 included a year-on-year growth of 16 percent in monthly transactional users (MTU) on the Gojek mobile app compared to 2023.

The company also provided opportunities for increased incomes and job flexibility to more than 3 million driver partners as well as 2.2 million GoFood MSMEs as of Dec. 31, 2024. These partners have contributed significantly to gross transaction value (GMV), confirming their vital role in both the GoTo ecosystem and the national economy.

Through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in 13 cities across the country, GoTo has provided free nutritious meals to more than 10,000 students at 31 schools each day.

GoTo’s achievement in leading the sustainable operations in its business is also recognized globally.

In 2024, GoTo was ranked in the 92nd percentile by S&P Global, rated ‘Low Risk’ by Morningstar Sustainalytics, and maintained an A rating by MSCI for its ESG performance. Its Morningstar Sustainalytics ranked GoTo ahead of its competitors Sea Ltd. and Grab.
