ndonesia has secured a commitment from Russia to supply up to 150 million barrels of crude oil at a “special price,” President Prabowo Subianto’s special envoy for energy and the environment, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, has revealed.
Hashim, who is also the President’s brother, said the strategic petroleum reserve would serve as a critical buffer against what he described as impending global economic turmoil.
“Indonesia has now secured a commitment from the Russian government. We can store 150 million barrels in Indonesia to address economic turmoil,” Hashim said on Thursday, as quoted by news agency Antara.
The deal was forged during President Prabowo’s three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 13.
According to Hashim, Russia agreed to an immediate dispatch of 100 million barrels, with a clause to supply an additional 50 million barrels should Indonesia require further assistance to stabilize its energy supply.
"So, he didn't go to Moscow to have fun," Hashim said, emphasizing the substantive nature of the talks.
"He went to receive a commitment from President Putin."
