T PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP), the power generation arm of state-owned electricity company PLN, is expanding its renewable energy business by targeting a 495 megawatt (MW) solar power project in Bangladesh.

The expansion was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between PLN IP and Bangladeshi conglomerate Bay Group on exploring solar power plant development in the South Asian country.

PLN IP president director Bernadus Sudarmanta said the collaboration marked its first foray into Bangladesh as part of its international expansion strategy, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

“This is our first project in Bangladesh, and we hope it will proceed well,” Bernadus said on Friday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

“We see this cooperation as a strategic step to strengthen the company’s position in the global market.”

The agreement presents an opportunity for PLN IP to participate in a tender process for solar power projects to be developed by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) across 10 strategic locations in that country.
