he Defense Ministry has said it is going to establish Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java, as Asia’s maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center for military transport aircraft C-130 Hercules.
The plan was unveiled by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin following his meeting with United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last month, during which Hegseth conveyed his intention to build a maintenance hub for the Hercules aircraft.
“The selection of Kertajati is based on considerations of its massive land availability and its adequate aviation supporting facilities,” said Defense Ministry spokesperson Rico Ricardo on Wednesday, as quoted by news agency Antara.

Turning Kertajati into a maintenance hub is deemed a strategic move to strengthen Indonesia’s defense industry, which is also expected to help the country build more partnerships and diplomatic ties with peers in the Asia region in using the military aircraft.
“This step is in line with efforts to strengthen self-sufficiency in the defense industry and national strategic support for aviation logistics,” Rico added.
However, he did not provide further details or progress on the plan.
