ctress Laura Basuki has won Best Supporting Performance at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) for her role in Kamila Andini’s latest movie, Before, Now & Then (Nana).
Laura received the Silver Bear trophy for the gender-neutral acting category, which the festival implemented last year.
“The feeling’s hard to describe […] it’s like a dream,” Laura told The Jakarta Post on Feb. 17.
“My sole intention in attending the Berlinale was to celebrate the world premiere of Before, Now & Then (Nana), so I had zero expectation of being able to actually take home the Silver Bear award,” the actress said.
“Just to see Before, Now & Then getting positive reviews has already made me happy, let alone being honored this way. It feels so surreal,” she added.
Laura, along with director Kamila Andini and the other cast and crew, attended the opening gala and world premiere of Before, Now & Then at the Berlinale on Feb. 10 before going into quarantine in Jakarta. She gave her speech through a recorded video on Feb. 16.
“This is for Indonesia,” she said after expressing her thanks in the speech.
