LPEM UI: APRIL Group contributed Rp 484.3 trillion to Indonesian GDP from 2016 to 2022

R

esearch by the Institute for Economic and Social Research at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) shows that APRIL Group’s operations in the period of 2016-2022 contributed significantly to national economic growth and catalyzed economic recovery in Riau province following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last seven years, APRIL Group's operations in Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan, Riau province, contributed Rp 484.3 trillion to national GDP. By 2022, APRIL's contribution was equivalent to 0.55 percent of national GDP, which comes from the impact of APRIL Group's main activity in pulp and paper production.

APRIL's production and operational activities provided employment to 257,436 people at the national level and 146,986 people in Riau province during 2022. APRIL's operations have also had a real impact on economic recovery in Riau, especially Pelalawan, as the main driver of GRDP during and after the pandemic.

Sihol Aritonang, president director of PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper, an operating arm of APRIL Group, expressed appreciation for the latest LPEM UI study. "This study affirms APRIL's impact on economic growth and further affirms our commitment to continuing to support sustainable economic growth through APRIL's entire production chain, including providing positive benefits to the community, in line with APRIL2030 sustainability commitments," Sihol said during a recent press conference.

In 2020, APRIL Group launched APRIL2030, a set of transformative commitments for the next 10 years. These commitments aim to contribute to climate, nature and communities while growing the business sustainably. One of the commitments, Inclusive Progress, seeks to eliminate extreme poverty within a 50-kilometer radius of APRIL's operations. APRIL Group also remains committed to innovating and strengthening investments that are in line with the government's priority agenda in advancing the green economy and sustainable development in Indonesia.
