Bahrisons Booksellers in New Delhi has been pinned on the map of Indonesian literary enthusiasts after the President stopped by during his first state visit to India over the weekend.
family-run bookstore in downtown New Delhi has gained newfound fame among Indonesians after President Prabowo Subianto visited the 71-year-old establishment late last week.
The President was on a three-day state visit to India to attend the 76th Republic Day parade and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he took the time to stop by Bahrisons Booksellers, which he said was "my favorite bookstore in New Delhi".
A clerk who asked to remain anonymous told The Jakarta Post on Monday that the President had purchased more than a dozen titles, including books on historic Chinese leaders and military strategy.
"There's one book on the history of Chairman Mao [Zedong], another on Deng Xiao Ping and lots of books on military history," the clerk said.
Several members of his entourage accompanied Prabowo to the bookstore, among them Indonesian Navy chief of staff Adm. Muhammad Ali, who was spotted browsing the history section.
"I looked for some military history books," Ali said of his selection.
Bahrisons Booksellers has continued to thrive since it opened in New Delhi’s Khan Market in October 1953.
