andaya Royal Hospital Puri has launched a nuclear medicine service center that focuses on treating hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer and thyroid disorders. One of the methods involves ablation with radioactive iodine 131 (RAI) to shrink and even eradicate entire thyroid gland cells that demonstrate malignancy like thyroid cancer.
The advantage of this therapeutic approach is its ability to treat thyroid cancer in both children and adults without undergoing surgery. The procedure itself isn’t complicated; patients will be asked to drink a colorless, odorless iodine 131 like their usual medicine and be placed in an isolation room for three to five days depending on the dose.
The Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri Nuclear Medicine Center is supported by a team of doctors, including the chairman of the Nuclear Medicine Association, Eko Purnomo, as well as. Alvita Dewi S and Aleksander. The center is also equipped with the latest technology and an isolation room filled with amenities for the patients’ comfort, such as a 55-inch smart TV, a coffee and teamaker, a microwave and a refrigerator.
“Thyroid Ablation Rooms are considered very rare. Among the 3,000 hospitals in Indonesia, only 20 are equipped with ablation rooms, including Mandaya Royal Hospital, which has three. Our vision is also reflected in our affordable treatment costs. The ablation costs Rp 30 million (US$ 2,061), starting with a whole-body scan at Rp 3 million,” said Mandaya Hospital Group marketing communication director Erwin.
“In addition to treatments for hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer and thyroid gland problems, the Nuclear Medicine Center also offers therapeutic solutions for other diseases such as neuroblastoma cancer, liver cancer and prostate cancer, as well as other diagnostic procedures such as bone scans, kidney renograms, intestinal bleeding, heart disease and dacryocystography for the eyes,” explained doctor Eko during the launch of the Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri Nuclear Medicine Center.
