Preparing young talented workforce, PNM conducts up-skilling program in 2023

I

n an effort to enhance the readiness of a young talented workforce, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) carried out an activity from its corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSER) program, namely Up Skilling 2023: Smart Job Seekers for high school graduates or equivalent, at Hotel Kristal Kupang, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Oct. 4-5.

The event was attended by several expert speakers, one of whom was Dini Yulia Kurniati, chairwoman of the JAGI Foundation and head of expert staff of the Jabar Masagi Program.

"There is still a gap between the skills and mindset readiness of young workers who have just completed their formal education to enter the workforce, and this is one of the root causes of the high unemployment rate in Indonesia, reaching 7.99 million as of February 2023," said Mira Damayanti, head of management services division and CSER at PNM, who also attended the event.

With a total of 100 participants, ranging from high school graduates to bachelor's degree holders, the training focused on four main topics: preparing mentally for work (self-awareness, workplace adaptation and the transition from a school environment to a work environment); job applicant administration; introduction to the basics of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel usage; and lastly, sales and marketing.

Participants were also introduced to the opportunities to join PNM. As of August 2023, there were 43,721 account officers (AOs) at PNM, and 95.61 percent of these were high school graduates or equivalent. Serving as the first point of contact for customers throughout Indonesia, PNM recruits its workforce from high school graduates or equivalent and those with higher educations. Not only do AOs serve customers, but they are also responsible for collecting payments from Mekaar PNM customers. Additionally, many of them have entrepreneurial knowledge and have even started their own businesses.

"Up-skilling activities not only provide training, as PNM always accompanies financing with mentoring, but we also offer opportunities to anyone who wishes to try their luck in joining us," added Hendri Yunus Kamang Pangemanan, director of business II at PT Mitra Utama Madani (MUM), an affiliate company of PNM responsible for AO recruitment.

In summary, PNM works toward empowering its customers through financing and mentoring. Financing and mentoring are two sides of the same coin that should not be separated from each other.

This initiative aligns with PNM's focus on building the economic pillar, which is a critical aspect of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in creating decent economic growth and addressing social inequality. Moreover, this activity also supports the social pillar of SDGs by reducing poverty rates in the community.
