The Batam Authority (BP Batam) presented its government work plan (RKP) and the agency’s work and budget plan (RKA-KL) for the fiscal year 2025.
he Batam Authority (BP Batam) presented its government work plan (RKP) and the agency’s work and budget plan (RKA-KL) for the fiscal year 2025. During a briefing before the House of Representatives Commission VI, which oversees trade, industry and investment, in Jakarta. During the briefing, BP Batam vice chairman Purwiyanto outlined future plans until 2045, focusing on seven strategic industrial sectors aligned with Batam's current conditions. These sectors are:
1. An international logistics hub
2. Aerospace industry
3. Light and valuable industries
4. Digital and creative industries
5. International trade and finance
6. Integrated health tourist industry in Sekupang
7. New and renewable energy industry
Batam is being developed into an international logistics hub through Batu Ampar Port. Currently, developments include a 12-hectare container yard, additional quay container cranes (QC), 10 rubber tired gantry cranes (RTG), expansion of the seaway (sea lane) by 9.8 ha, and plans to increase capacity to 900,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
For the aerospace industry, Batam hosts the Batam Aero Technic Special Economic Zone (BAT SEZ), focused on aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), which includes Lion Air facilities. The BAT SEZ covers 30 ha and is slated for further expansion.
In the creative industry sector, Batam's Nongsa Digital Park Special Economic Zone (NDP SEZ) focuses on film, animation, data centers and other digital-based industries. Infinite Studio within NDP is Southeast Asia's largest film studio spanning 1300 and 2800 square meters, producing Hollywood films and internationally acclaimed animations for cinema and Netflix.
The International Health Tourism SEZ in Sekupang was recently approved and spans 47.17 ha, expecting investments totaling Rp 6.9 trillion (US$419,796). In addition to healthcare facilities, it will include an international nursing academy, MedTech Park with Meetings, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition (MICE) facilities, doctors’ housing, dormitories, hotels and retail spaces.
Aligned with Indonesia's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, Batam plans to develop green industries and their supporting ecosystems. This includes Rempang Eco-City, and housing integrated industrial areas, silica sand processing plants, a soda ash industry, a solar panel glass industry, float glass industry, industrial grade silicon processing, polysilicon industry, crystal processing industry and solar cell and module manufacturing.
The Wiraraja Galang Industrial Zone will manage 3,589 ha, focusing on solar farm industries and supporting sectors for new and renewable energy. This integrated new and renewables industrial zone is located behind the Sei Gong Dam in Batam.
