Trehaus School Jakarta innovates holistic early education for children in a digital world

n today's rapidly evolving digital world, early education has taken on new importance. As parents struggle with the question of what truly matters for their children's future, Trehaus School Jakarta is providing answers.

Known as Jakarta's first-of-its-kind preschool, Trehaus School blends project-based and play-based learning to prepare children for the future. The school's approach, based on the Trehaus Method, integrates cognitive, emotional and social development into a holistic curriculum for children aged 18 months to six years.

At a recent panel discussion titled "Nurturing Young Minds: What Matters Most," Trehaus School Jakarta invited experts to discuss the critical role early education plays in shaping young minds. Moderated by Marissa Nasution, the discussion featured key speakers,  Elaine Kim, CEO and cofounder of Trehaus, Elizabeth Wu, COO, cofounder and director of schools at Trehaus, and Felicia Hanitio, deputy education director of Djarum Foundation. Together, they explored how innovative education models like Trehaus are meeting the growing demands of today's parents for holistic, future-ready learning.

“We offer holistic education that incorporates research-based pedagogies, creating a child-led, play-based curriculum. Our goal is to nurture children who are imbued with values, knowledge, and skills to become future changemakers," Elaine said, emphasizing the need for a child’s self-discovery journey to be just as important as academic results. This focus on holistic development makes Trehaus School Jakarta stand out, with its commitment to shaping children not just academically but also emotionally and socially.

Additionally, Trehaus also recognizes the importance of nurturing children's curiosity. Elizabeth highlighted how its approach fosters independence, social skills and emotional intelligence through project-based and play-based learning. The school also promotes cognitive development in a multilingual environment, exposing children to English, Mandarin and Indonesian. This not only equips them with language skills but also raises cultural awareness.

As the world adjusts to a post-pandemic reality, Trehaus School Jakarta has proven to be resilient and innovative. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Trehaus quickly transitioned to online learning and leveraged its edtech platform, Little Lab, to continue providing child-centered education. Elizabeth described how it quickly pivoted and adapted learning materials to be engaging and impactful for children, even in a virtual environment. The Little Lab platform continues to play an important role in the school’s teaching model, providing personalized lessons tailored to each child's learning needs.

The demand for innovative education is growing, especially in Indonesia, where more parents are recognizing the need for high-quality, holistic learning environments. Trehaus School Jakarta fills this gap by creating a supportive community for both parents and children. As Elizabeth says, parents need to be able to see their children. Their concept of “parents as co-teachers, teachers as co-parents” encourages collaboration and ensures that learning continues everywhere.

Ultimately, what matters most in early education is providing children with the right tools and environments to flourish in an ever-changing world. Trehaus School Jakarta aims to offer a blend of academic excellence and character development that prepares young learners to become the changemakers of tomorrow. With its pioneering methods and a commitment to raising children with strong values and skills, Trehaus School Jakarta is setting a new standard for early education in the digital world.
