n celebration of Youth Pledge Day, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) joined forces with the younger generation in Ambon to carry out coral reef conservation as part of its commitment to environmental preservation. Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, PNM collaborated with marine environment advocacy group Sea Soldier to plant 600 coral seedlings at Morella Beach, Maluku.

This strategic initiative underscores PNM’s dedication to revitalizing social life, conserving the environment and fostering economic empowerment for the residents of Morella village. The project also aims to develop local tourism potential, creating positive economic impacts for the community.

Arief Mulyadi, PNM’s president director, emphasized the importance of youth engagement in environmental conservation efforts. “The passion and dedication of young people in safeguarding our natural heritage is a genuine display of nationalism and love for the country. Through this collaboration, PNM hopes to improve coastal community welfare by upholding values of unity and cooperation,” he said.

The coral planting initiative is expected to enhance marine ecosystems, providing a habitat for various fish species, which in turn can boost local fishermen's catches and prosperity. Moreover, the coral reefs’ beauty at Morella Beach is anticipated to attract tourists, stimulating the local economy in Morella village.

Arief noted that the success of coral growth in Morella also benefits from supportive natural conditions and the local community’s commitment to preserving coastal and marine ecosystems.

“Community involvement is essential, as with education and increased awareness, residents can maintain beach cleanliness and sustain coral reefs for the long term,” he added.

Through this program, PNM also educates local residents on the importance of keeping beaches and nearby waters clean, while engaging them in the ongoing maintenance of the coral reefs.
