Promag, Mikael Jasin present gut health solution for coffee lovers

P

T Kalbe Farma Tbk. (Kalbe), through its subsidiary Kalbe Consumer Health and antacid market leader Promag brand, is collaborating with Mikael Jasin, winner of the 2024 World Barista Championship, to provide Promag Herbal as a safe solution for coffee lovers with stomach issues.

The new collaboration was launched at a ceremony during Jakarta Coffee Week, a vibrant event held from Nov. 1 to 3 at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, Banten.

"Kalbe Consumer Health is collaborating with Mikael Jasin, a world-class barista with deep knowledge of coffee. This is an initial step to educate the Indonesian public about new consumption habits, specifically drinking Promag Herbal before having coffee.

“This way, the stomach will be protected and there will be no need to worry about stomach problems. 'Promag Herbal First, Coffee No Worry,'” said Irwan Wijaya, marketing general manager at Kalbe Consumer Health, referring to the product’s tag line.

Irwan also expressed optimism that the collaboration between Promag and Mikael would motivate coffee lovers nationwide to maintain their gut health without having to give up their beloved beverage.

Promag Herbal is a practical, natural and effective solution to maintain a healthy digestive system amid a dynamic lifestyle.

Dr. Helmin Agustina Silalahi, Kalbe Consumer Health’s medical expert, added that since coffee is acidic, its consumption could lead to increased production of stomach acid. This could in turn lead to serious illnesses, such as gastritis and gastroesophageal reflux disease, more commonly known as GERD.

Worse, adding certain ingredients to coffee can exacerbate its negative effects.

"Caffeine, creamer, sugar or artificial sweeteners that are often added to coffee can irritate the stomach lining. These ingredients eventually worsen gastritis symptoms, such as nausea, bloating, stomach pain, loss of appetite and even vomiting,” said Helmin.

“However, with herbal ingredients like turmeric, honey and licorice, the stomach can be protected effectively. Therefore, it is important for people with gastritis to be more selective in choosing their coffee and its additives," she advised.

This tip also resonates with award-winning barista Mikael, who is also a coffee enthusiast. He acknowledged that stomach issues were among the biggest challenges for coffee lovers, with many having to reduce or even stop drinking coffee because of stomachache.

"Coffee is part of many people's lifestyles but unfortunately, not everyone can enjoy it without worrying about stomach problems. This collaboration with Promag gives me the opportunity to show that coffee can still be enjoyed safely by people with stomach issues," said Mikael, who also served coffee to visitors as part of the launch event at Jakarta Coffee Week.

He also enthused that his new collaboration with Promag was an effort to educate the public about Promag Herbal as a safe solution that offers maximum protection for coffee drinkers.

"Enjoying good coffee is just as important as protecting your stomach. That’s why Promag Herbal is always my go-to. 'Promag Herbal First, Coffee No Worry,'" Mikael said.

Promag products offer a practical and effective solution for people experiencing stomach issues, such as nausea, bloating and heartburn.

Promag Herbal contains eight herbal ingredients, including honey, turmeric and licorice. It has become the preferred choice for consumers looking to maintain gut health, even while enjoying their daily cup of Java.

"We hope this collaboration provides the right solution for enjoying the taste of coffee safely and comfortably,” said Irwan.

“Moving forward, as part of our initiative to promote healthy coffee drinking, Promag will be collaborating with over 10,000 coffee shops across Indonesia to educate more than 100 million coffee lovers. This effort has already begun with collaborations with Loopline Coffee & Threefolks Coffee," he said.
